The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Silver Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Sixth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major Robert W. Undorf (AFSN: FR-3117223), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight in Southeast Asia on 2 September 1972. On that date, Major Undorf in the lead aircraft of a force of twenty F-4D fighter aircraft, participated in a daring daylight raid against Phuoc Yen Air Base, North Vietnam. Despite multiple surface-to-air missile launches against his aircraft and heavy anti-aircraft fire in the target area, Major Undorf executed a clearly superior attack resulting in extremely heavy damage to the hostile air base. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Undorf reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
