The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class George D. Stanley (MCSN: 1092621), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Rifleman of Company B, First Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 28 October 1950. Serving as a member of the point quad during a night attack against a strongly defended enemy position when his unit was temporarily pinned down by intense, close-range hostile automatic weapons, rifle and grenade fire, Private First Class Stanley unhesitatingly moved through the withering enemy fire to render aid to several wounded comrades lying in the exposed fire-swept area. Although painfully wounded while administering emergency treatment and assisting the casualties to safety, he continued to aid the stricken Marines, seeking treatment for his own wounds only after all other casualties had been removed from the danger area. By his outstanding courage, fortitude and self-sacrificing efforts in behalf of others in the face of enemy fire, Private First Class Stanley served to inspire all who observed him and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
