The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Allen Earl Post (MCSN: 840181), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Gunner of an Armored Amphibian of Company B, First Armored Amphibian Battalion, First Provisional Marine Brigade, Third Amphibious Corps, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands, on 21 July 1944. Although he was painfully wounded when his vehicle was struck by an enemy mortar shell during the advance following the initial landing, Private First Class Post crawled through heavy hostile fire and pulled his wounded Platoon Leader to the shelter of a shell hole. After the Platoon Leader was killed by an enemy hand grenade, he attacked the hostile entrenchments with hand grenades, killing many Japanese and damaging enemy installations. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Post and the United States Naval Service.
