The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Ronald David Anderson (MCSN: 2320067), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a member of a six-man reconnaissance patrol team with Headquarters and Service Company, Second Battalion, Twenty-Sixth Marines, THIRD Marine Division, in the Republic of Vietnam, on 6 April 1967. Private First Class Anderson’s patrol was met by an ambush attack of North Vietnamese Army personnel. Upon receiving heavy machine gun and automatic weapons fire, the patrol returned fire toward the enemy. Noticing another patrol member having difficulty with his rifle failing to fire, Private first Class Anderson crawled through heavy machine gun fire, placing himself between the disabled Marine and the enemy, and began to return a base of fire, which enabled his comrade to escape. As he saved his comrade from injury and possible loss of life, Private First Class Anderson was mortally wounded. His extraordinary initiative and inspiring valor were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
