The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Colonel Paul Page Douglas, Jr. (AFSN: FR-8073/ASN: 0-432187), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Thunderchief pilot over North Vietnam on 5 June 1968. On that date, Colonel Douglas was ordered to attack and destroy a heavily defended ammunition storage area made almost inaccessible through a combination of mountainous terrain and marginal weather conditions. Despite the many hazards, Colonel Douglas, with consummate flying skill and at great personal risk, bombed and strafed the target with devastating effect. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Douglas reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
