The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Daniel Oswald Curran (ASN: 0-5339593), United States Army, for heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force. Second Lieutenant Curran distinguished himself by heroic actions on 19 January 1968, while serving as a Platoon Leader with Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, on a road clearing operation in the vicinity of Prek Klok, in Tay Ninh Province, Republic of Vietnam. When his platoon was taken under heavy fire by the enemy Lieutenant Curran, with complete disregard for his own safety, exposed himself to the intense hostile fire and advanced against the enemy positions. He assisted in recovering wounded personnel while leading his men in silencing an automatic weapons position that had portions of the platoon pinned down. Lieutenant Curran exposed himself to enemy fire on several occasions to direct and encourage his men in accomplishing a complete rout of the enemy force. Lieutenant Curran’s personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
