The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Air Corps) Kenneth Harry Dahlberg (ASN: 0-733838), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against the enemy in the European Theater of Operation on 1 December 1944. After the bombs had been dispatched upon the objective, Captain Dahlberg and his wingman became separated from their formation when they gave chase to a jet propelled enemy aircraft. Returning home, Captain Dahlberg, disregarding the superior numbers, turned into thirty ME-109’s and in quick succession attacked and destroyed two ME-109’s. So successful was Captain Dahlberg’s attack that his wingman was able to destroy another of the enemy, while the remainder jettisoned their auxiliary tanks and withdrew. The skilful and aggressive combat technique displayed by Captain Dahlberg in this engagement reflects great credit on himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Army Air Forces.
