The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Major General Nikolai Aleksandrovich Shvarev, Red Army, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R), for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy as Commanding General of the 317th Rifle Division, Red Army, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R), in action against our common enemy, Germany, in World War II. Major General Shvarev’s outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the Allied Nations.
