The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sous-Lieutenant Andre Guillebaud, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Office of Strategic Services, in action against enemy forces from 10 April 1944 to 27 June 1944. Sous-Lieutenant Guillebaud was parachuted into France in civilian clothes to act as a radio operator for a secret intelligence team. He directed the operation by which equipment for the first “Ossex” teams arrived. Although he had trouble in keeping his radio equipment in operation, he persevered in maintaining contact with headquarters and in transmitting the heavy traffic which his observer gave him. When his observer was arrested and executed, he moved so that he could continue operation, but broke his set in the process. Thereupon, he was directed to Amiens and worked with a British dispatched team until the liberation of Amiens. Sous-Lieutenant Guillebaud’s outstanding accomplishments, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the Allied Nations.
