The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sous-Lieutenant Pierre Binet, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Office of Strategic Services, in action against enemy forces in enemy-occupied France, from 8 February 1944 to 21 August 1944. Sous-Lieutenant Binet was parachuted into France in civilian clothes as Second-in-Command of the “Pathfinder” mission which was responsible for finding parachuting fields, safe houses, local organizers, and means of transporting agents, with their equipment, for fifty different points. He found contacts and facilities for agents, and, with complete disregard for himself, often took part in two or three parachute operations in one week. When he considered his mission ended, he left Paris to join the Marquis in an eastern region. He was arrested near Troyes and immediately executed. Sous-Lieutenant Binet lost his life through his great devotion to duty. The intrepidity and unselfish devotion to duty displayed by Sous-Lieutenant Binet reflect highest credit upon himself and the Allied Forces.
