The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Ordnance Corps) Lloyd George Smith (ASN: 0-455941), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Headquarters Company, 2677th Regiment (Provisional), Office of Strategic Services, in action against enemy forces in Italy, from 7 December 1943 through 21 March 1944, in enemy-occupied territory. Captain Smith’s resolute conduct in the face of great peril, throughout an extended period, in the successfully accomplishment of an extremely hazardous and difficult mission exemplified the finest traditions of the armed forces in the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
