The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technician Fifth Grade Frank John Sabonis (ASN: 31103480), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company A, 24th Tank Battalion, 13th Armored Division, in action against enemy forces on 13 April 1945, near Seelshiede, Germany. Technician Fifth Grad Sabonis, displaying exceptional courage, eliminated three Panzerfaust teams that were halting the advance of his unit. He then boldly advanced on a hostile machine gun position and killed its crew with his sub-machine gun. While returning to his position, he encountered two other sniper riflemen and eliminated both. Technician Fifth Grade Sabonis’ cool and deliberate actions were in accord with the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
