The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technician Third Grade John F. Riskey (ASN: 32666184), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 302d Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in Germany, on 20 and 21 January 1945. During fierce action near Tettingen, Germany, Technician Third Grade Riskey repeatedly distinguished himself braving intense fire to aid and evacuate the wounded. On two occasions when then attacking infantry were forced to withdraw he courageously remained behind to tend to the wounded. On one bold trip into a hail of fire machine-gun bullets ripped and tore his overcoat. Technician Third Grade Riskey’s courageous, unselfish devotion to duty exemplifies the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflects great credit upon himself, the 94th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
