The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Max Y. Parker (ASN: 37107861), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the Medical Detachment, 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in Luxembourg, on 10 January 1945. On that date, Private Parker was serving as a Medical Aidman with Company D, 359th Infantry, in an attack near Trentelhof, Luxembourg. As the attack progressed against fierce resistance casualties mounted, and this soldier was the only remaining aid man to serve the entire battalion front. On the fire-swept slope where the action centered he courageously tended the wounded who were lying exposed in the intense cold. He had given aid to more than twenty men and was making his way to another injured soldier when he was killed by enemy artillery fire. Private First Class Parker’s conspicuous heroism and supreme, unselfish devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 90th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
