The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Jerry M. Page (ASN: 0-539364), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy, as a Platoon Leader and than as Commanding Officer of Company C, 1st Battalion, 413th Infantry Regiment, 104th Infantry Division, on 28 November 1944, near Altdorf, Belgium. When heavy enemy fire from a nearby house threatened his platoon’s position on the west side of the Inde River, Lieutenant Page, with two other soldiers, charged the enemy stronghold and captured ten of the enemy. Although forced back across the river, he effected a brilliant re-crossing and, when enemy fire was encountered from the same house, he and two companions once more assaulted the position, forcing the surrender of twenty-eight of the enemy. Lieutenant Page’s courageous and inspiring actions were, in a large measure, responsible for the successful fulfillment of his platoon’s mission. His extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 104th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
