The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class Edward J. Lesinski (ASN: 34825527), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 3d Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), 3d Cavalry Group (Separate), in action against enemy forces in Germany, on 13 March 1945. During a fierce enemy counterattack near Riol, Germany, Private Lesinski courageously braved withering enemy fire and rendered first aid to wounded comrades. He fearlessly ventured from his position in the line on at least eight occasions, returned the intense enemy fire and gave medical assistance to his fellow soldiers. During the actions he treated or evacuated approximately twenty men at the risk of his own life and in addition to his duties as a combat soldier. Private Lesinski’s unselfish, heroic actions upheld the finest traditions of the military service.
