The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Coast Artillery Corps) Jacques Lucien LeBaigue, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Office of Strategic Services, in action against enemy forces from 5 May 1944 to 28 October 1944. Lieutenant LeBaigue was parachuted into France in civilian clothes as a member of the mission whose assignment was to arm, organize and train the resistance force of 4,000 and train them for sabotage and guerrilla warfare activities against enemy troops and installations. The resistance forces were repeatedly attacked by large forces of enemy troops. In every encounter with the enemy, he distinguished himself by his coolness and courage, winning the respect of all the men under his leadership. First Lieutenant LeBaigue’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
