The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Frank Ralph Kutak, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company A, 53d Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division, in action against enemy forces on 25 December 1944. On that date, Lieutenant Kutak led Company A in an attack on Remoiville, Belgium. Completely disregarding his own safety, he repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire, inspiring his men by his courage and fearless leadership. As a result of the attack, the strongly defended town was captured. That night, although he had been wounded twice, Lieutenant Kutak reorganized his company and again distinguished himself by boldly leading his men against a numerically superior enemy force. His conspicuous heroism, many times displayed, and his courage and devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 4th Armored Division, and the United States Army.
