    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Elmo Homis Jarvis (ASN: 35210652), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with an Infantry Company of the 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces Southeast of ****, Tunisia, on 1 April 1943. On that date, Private Jarvis with one other man, charged the crest of a hill held by the enemy. He opened fire with his automatic rifle and kept firing until killed by enemy machine gun fire. His action allowed his platoon, which had been pinned down by the machine gun fire, to gain their objective. Private Jarvis’ extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
