The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain Raymond Champ Hunt, Jr., United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Executive Officer, Luzon Guerilla Army Forces, U.S. Army Forces in the Far East, in action against enemy forces from 21 April 1942 through 30 April 1945, in the vicinity of Tarlac, Philippine Islands. Following his escape from the enemy early in 1942, Captain Hunt organized two companies of guerrillas and became the Executive Officer for Luzon Guerilla Army Forces, United States Army Forces in the Far East in Tarlac Province. Gathering scattered arms, his men cleared the area of roving bandit gangs. Accepting the command of Pangasinan Province 20 June 1944, he carried on propaganda work among civilians and instituted intelligence activities. His troops started all-out operations against the foe four days prior to the landing of American Forces at Lingayen Gulf. Participating in the attack on an enemy garrison at San Quintin, Pangasinan, on 5 January 1945, he infiltrated their lines to gain valuable combat intelligence and establish a communication center for G-2 reports from several neighboring provinces. By his ability, initiative, courage and qualities of leadership, while engaged in activities with the Luzon Guerrilla Army Forces, Captain Hunt materially aided American operations in the Philippine Islands. His intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the U.S. Army Forces in the Far East, and the United States Army.
