The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private First Class John R. Fisher (ASN: 36166486), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 8 November 1942, at Kasba-Mehdia, French Morocco. Private First Class Fisher climbed the walls of the Fort and from this exceptionally hazardous position, firing his automatic rifle at the enemy, diverted their attention and enabled our other troops to break in and make entry through the main gates of the Fort. This act aided in the fall of the Kasba and the surrender of many prisoners inside the walls. Private First Class Fisher’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
