The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Robert B. Cobb (ASN: 0-392511), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa during the period from January to July 1943. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

Colonel Cobb repeatedly displayed great personal bravery and sound leadership ability throughout a decisive engagement with the enemy. He personally organize and led several attacks against strongly entrenched enemy forces although constantly fired upon by heavy enemy weapons. Colonel Cobb’s coolness under fire and tactical skill inspired the officers and men of his battalion. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
