The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Angelus Mario Christiana (ASN: 31049351), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in Luxembourg, on 18 January 1945. On that date, during fierce action near Destroff, Luxembourg, Corporal Christiana fearlessly exposed himself to intense hostile mortar and artillery fire and led his wire team in establishing vitally needed communications between the Battalion Command Post an the leading rifle company. Although seriously wounded by enemy artillery fire he realized his team was handicapped by other casualties and gallantly continued to aid them in the hazardous operations, aggravating his wounds to such an extent that he died the following day. Corporal Christiana’s heroic action and loyal devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
