The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Donald Burton Blaisdell (ASN: 20649421), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 57th Engineer Combat Battalion, 23d Infantry Division (Americal), in action against enemy forces from 31 March 1945 to 18 April 1945, at Cebu, Philippine Islands. Private Blaisdell was a member of a demolition team which was employed in the destruction of enemy emplacements, the clearing of mines and booby traps and the sealing of gun emplacements and caves. They also acted as security for a bulldozer operating in the forward area. Private Blaisdell, with complete disregard for his own safety, was instrumental in saving the lives of many of the infantrymen by the removal of these obstacles and aided in the success of the operation. His extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
