The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Colonel (Corps of Engineers), [then Captain] Amado Bautista (ASN: 0-1365), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of the 11th Engineer Battalion, 11th Division, Philippine Scouts, in action against enemy forces from 21 December 1941 to 4 January 1942, in the Philippine Islands. Colonel Bautista displayed extraordinary heroism while in the performance of his duties in action against the enemy at San Juan, La Union, Philippine Islands, on 21 December 1941; at Klondykes and Camp One, Pangasinan, Philippine Islands, on 23 December 1941; at Concepcion, Tarlac, Philippine Islands on 28 December 194; at Guagua and Lubao, Pampanga, Philippine Islands, on 3 – 4 January 1942; and at other times and places in the 11th Division sector, where need was greatest and enemy pressure strongest. His personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
