The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Hospitalman Pedro Munoz (NSN: 6983388), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Medical Corpsman with Company B, First Battalion, Ninth Marines, THIRD Marine Division, in connection with operations against insurgent forces in the Republic of Vietnam. On 12 May 1966, while on patrol, Petty Officer Munoz along with other members of his platoon were fiercely engaged by a numerically superior Viet Cong force. With complete disregard for his own wounds and personal safety, he continually exposed himself to enemy fire in order to care for the wounded. Moving up and down the perimeter, Petty Officer Munoz continued to render medical aid and lend encouragement until he was mortally wounded. By his daring actions, bold courage, and selfless devotion to duty, Petty Officer Munoz reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
