The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Pay Clerk (SC) John H. Walker, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty while serving with the Supply Corps, SIXTEENTH Naval District, Cavite, Philippine Islands, following the Japanese bombing attack on the Cavite Naval Yard beginning on 10 December 1941. Pay Clerk Walker displayed the highest degree of personal courage, leadership and presence of mind while under fire by voluntarily organizing and leading a party which rescued a number of buried and wounded men from burning debris. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Navy of the United States.
