    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Thomas Edward Armour (NSN: 0-291186), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight near the west coast of Formosa as pilot of a carrier-based torpedo plane on 9 January 1945. He pressed home his glide bombing attack on an enemy cargo ship in the face of heavy anti-aircraft fire to score a hit. His courage and determination were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Ensign Thomas Edward Armour (NSN: 0-291186), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary heroism in operations against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a carrier-based Navy Torpedo Plane of Torpedo Squadron TWENTY (VT-20), attached to the U.S.S. ENTERPRISE (CV-6), in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Philippine Islands during the Battle for Leyte Gulf on 25 October 1944. Undaunted by intense enemy anti-aircraft fire, Ensign Armour pressed home his torpedo attack through intense anti-aircraft fire to score a hit on an enemy carrier. The carrier sank as a result of his and other hits. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
