The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Aviation Ordnanceman First Class George Seivwright, Jr. (NSN: 6667151), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty while serving on board the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. FRANKLIN (CV-13), in action against the enemy on 30 October 1944, in the Pacific War Area. When explosions and fires swept the ship due to an enemy aerial attack, Aviation Ordnance Man First Class Seivwright voluntarily entered a blazing and smoke-filled compartment with complete disregard for his own safety and rescued three shipmates. He then again entered the compartment to rescue additional personnel trapped there. His courage and disregard for his own safety were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the Navy of the United States. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
