The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Lieutenant (MC) Edwin Robson Nelson (NSN: 0-82226), United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action and meritorious conduct in the line of his profession as a Medical Officer with Army General Hospital No. 1, in time of stress on Bataan Peninsula, Philippine Islands, during the period from 5 November 1941 to 11 March 1942. Lieutenant Nelson’s gallant actions, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
