The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Captain Albert Kellogg Morehouse (NSN: 0-57681), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of the Escort Carrier U.S.S. NATOMA BAY (CVE-62), supporting the landing of American Forces at Leyte, Mindoro, Lingayen Gulf and Zambales between 12 October 1944 and 5 February 1945. Through his own example of courage, determination and skillful initiative in combat, he constantly inspired his officers and men to the superlative efforts that characterized his ship and contributed so materially to the success of her missions. His outstanding conduct and service throughout these sustained operations was in accordance with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. Commander 7th Fleet: Serial 02333 (March 1, 1945)The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Captain Albert Kellogg Morehouse (NSN: 0-57681), United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism and distinguished service in the line of his profession as Commanding Officer of the Escort Carrier U.S.S. NATOMA BAY (CVE-62), operating as a Unit of three Groups of Escort Aircraft Carriers in action against major ships of the Japanese Fleet during the Battle off Samar, on 25 October 1944. An aggressive and determined leader, Captain Morehouse courageously directed the activities of his ship and air department during the initial battle for Leyte Gulf and, by inspiring his officers and men to heroic efforts in the face of an attack by an overwhelming enemy Task Force of battleships, cruisers and destroyers, contributed materially to the infliction of severe damage on the Japanese Fleet. Through his gallant fighting spirit and expert seamanship, he was instrumental in turning potential defeat into a decisive victory, and his devotion to duty reflects the highest credit upon Captain Morehouse and the United States Naval Service.

Commander in Chief Pacific: Serial 0157 (February 1, 1951)_The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Rear Admiral Albert Kellogg Morehouse (NSN: 0-57681), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chief of Staff to Commander Naval Forces, Far East, from 25 June 1950 to 1 January 1951. Discharging his many responsibilities with great diligence and ability, Rear Admiral Morehouse directed coordination of the naval effort from the commencement of hostilities in Korea, laboring tirelessly to effect liaison between all organizations involved during a crucial period when his efforts were vital to organizing the tremendously expanded naval force in the Far East. As personal representative of his Commander, he made frequent visits to combatant elements in Korea and adjacent waters to gain first hand knowledge of their circumstances and requirements. His unusual professional ability and application to his demanding duties were responsible for the smooth functioning of the staff of Commander Naval Forces, Far East, while his judgment and initiative materially contributed to the success of the Korean effort. His outstanding service throughout the period reflected the greatest credit upon him and upon the United States Naval Service. (Rear Admiral Morehouse is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
