The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Edwin H. Kiefer, United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action during the Japanese aerial attack on Oahu, Territory of Hawaii, on 7 December 1941. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Kiefer helped maintain by hand, ammunition supply to anti-aircraft guns until he was overcome by smoke and fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
