Commanding General, Fleet Marine Force Pacific: Serial 00422

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Louis S. Karosi (MCSN: 523362), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company C, First Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division, during operations against enemy Japanese forces on Peleliu, Palau Islands, on 16 September 1944. During an enemy attack just before daybreak, Corporal Karosi continually traversed the defense line of his squad which was being subjected to intense hostile fire in order to direct more effective fire against repeated enemy assaults. Severely wounded during one of the attacks, he refused medical treatment and persistently continued to supervise the fire of his group, thereby contributing materially to the repulse of each hostile counterattack and to the annihilation of many enemy troops. His determination, coolness under fire and courageous leadership reflect great credit on Corporal Karosi and the United States Naval Service.
