(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant Edward O. Shaw (MCSN: 0-13562), United States Marine Corps, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight, as Pilot of a Fighter Airplane in Marine Fighting Squadron TWO HUNDRED THIRTEEN (VMF-213), in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Pacific in June and July 1943. On 30 June 1943, Lieutenant Shaw was a member of a flight of fighter planes which attacked a formation of nine enemy float planes and in the action which followed he personally sent two of them crashing into the sea. On 15 July his flight intercepted a force of eight enemy twin-engined bombers and in determined attacks he sent two of them down in flames.
