Edward Shaw became a World War II Marine Corps DOUBLE ACE, and was credited with shooting down FOURTEEN enemy aircraft in aerial combat, and in assisting in shooting down an additional enemy airplane. He was subsequently killed in 1944 during a test flight in California.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant Edward O. Shaw (MCSN: 0-13562), United States Marine Corps, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight, as Pilot of a Fighter Airplane in Marine Fighting Squadron TWO HUNDRED THIRTEEN (VMF-213), in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Pacific in June and July 1943. On 30 June 1943, Lieutenant Shaw was a member of a flight of fighter planes which attacked a formation of nine enemy float planes and in the action which followed he personally sent two of them crashing into the sea. On 15 July his flight intercepted a force of eight enemy twin-engined bombers and in determined attacks he sent two of them down in flames.
