Hyde Phillips became a World War II Marine Corps ACE, credited with shooting down FIVE enemy aircraft in aerial combat. Returning to combat duty during the Korean War, on August 14, 1952, upon returning from a combat mission, his engine failed during landing causing the aircraft to crash and burn
