The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Commander Edward Cobb Outlaw (NSN: 0-75046), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight during World War II. While flight leader of a fighter escort for bombing planes in the Solomon Islands, Lieutenant Commander Outlaw led his planes in ten attacks against Japanese destroyers and positions at Munda Point and Vila Plantation from 2 February to 6 March 1943. On 7 February, he and his comrades shot down three Zeros and drove off the remainder, enabling our dive bombers to complete their mission successfully.
