Beneke (MCSN: 0-19852), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Solomon Islands Area from 4 January 1943 to 10 January 1943. First Lieutenant Beneke completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Marine Gunner Albert C. Beneke (MCSN: 0-19852), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. During his fourth tour at Guadalcanal, from 22 June 1943 to 3 August 1943, Marine Gunner Beneke participated in twelve hazardous dive-bombing attacks against enemy airfields, troop positions, and shipping. On 17 July 1943, in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire and a superior number of enemy fighters, he scored a direct hit on an enemy destroyer which was under way in Kahili Harbor. Other raids were made on gun positions at Munda and Vila airfields through intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire. His personal courage and skill contributed greatly to the success of his squadron against the enemy and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
