The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Carl J. Anderson (MCSN: 0-27685), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Western Carolines Islands from 27 September 1944 to 8 February 1945. First Lieutenant Anderson materially contributed to the destruction of enemy installations in the face of intense anti-aircraft fire. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
