The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant Sherman Otto Allgeier (MCSN: 455908), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in connection with military operations against the enemy in the Pacific Area from 9 May 1944 to 27 May 1945. Technical Sergeant Allgeier flew one thousand hours in an unarmed aircraft in the Pacific Area, including flight to the Philippines and other areas still occupied by the enemy. During these flights, many of which were performed under extremely hazardous and adverse weather conditions, personnel and vital material were transported to bases in the forward areas. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
