Joseph Went is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, Class of 1953, and in 1993 received the Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater. From July 1, 1988 to July 31, 1990, he served as the 22d Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps and retired as a United States Marine Corps General.
