Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 227 (September 8, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Private First Class] Turner B. Wilson (ASN: 34990391), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 25 December 1944 in Belgium. When his assaulting infantry rifle company was unable to advance in attacking Bonville, Belgium, because they were pinned down by heavy enemy fire, Staff Sergeant Wilson voluntarily crawled 200 yards to a position from which he threw grenades and silenced an enemy machine gun nest. Discovering a second emplacement, he directed his automatic rifle at it, forcing the enemy to surrender. Staff Sergeant Wilson’s outstanding courage, initiative, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
