    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Chief Turret Captain Ernest W. Cagle, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism and excellent judgment in the performance of his duty on the occasion of a powder bag fire in the after twin mount of the U.S.S. Milwaukee during the conduct of Day Division Practice by that vessel on 11 May 1933. Chief Turret Captain Cagle’s prompt action and efficient coolness on this occasion prevented any damage to personnel or material. His conduct was of the highest order and in keeping with the best traditions of the Naval Service.
