The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Jean Vidalon, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Assistant Chief of Staff of the French Army and as Head of the 2d Section of the General Staff, particularly charged with relations with foreign armies and of the Special Franco-American Bureau, General Vidalon successfully and most satisfactorily managed and coordinated the relations of the Ministry of War with the American authorities. To him is due much credit for the able direction of all the American units in French territory. His able assistance has contributed in a large measure to the friendly spirit that has existed between the French and the Americans.
