The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Dr. T. Tuffier, a French civilian, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I, serving as Professor, French Medical Inspector, School of Medicine. By his untiring zeal and devotion to the promotion of efficient treatment of the American sick and wounded, and by his earnest cooperation with the Medical Service of the American Expeditionary Forces in important research work, the inroads of disease and infections from wounds among the Americans were curtailed. By his eminent skill in scientific research in the field of preventive medicine and wound bacteriology, he achieved marvelous results in the saving of lives among our sick and wounded. He rendered services of great consequence to the American Expeditionary Forces.
