The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major of Engineers M. A. Tinardon, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As a Member of the 4th Bureau of the General Staff of the French Army, Major Tinardon rendered invaluable service to the American Expeditionary Forces in connection with the selection of suitable sites for depots and hospitals. He gave us his time willingly, although his duties were pressing, aiding us most ably in the development of plans, and frequently furnishing us with labor and construction material in time of emergency.
