The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel August Tilkens, Belgian Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. After serving with distinction in Command of troops, Colonel Tilkens rendered most valuable services as Aide-de-Camp to the King of the Belgians. As member of the King’s military household he showed high military attainments, and his advice proved uniformly sound.
