The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General John M. Salmond, Royal British Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As General Officer Commanding the British Royal Air Forces in the field, General Salmond distinguished himself by the exceptionally valuable services he performed. He aided and furthered the training of the units of the U.S. Air Service attached to his command. He organized the training in the field of squadrons, pilots, ground officers, and mechanics of the American Air Service, rendering us most valuable assistance at all times.
