The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Charles E. Sainte-Claire-Deville, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I. As Inspector General of Material and Ammunition for the French Armies, General Sainte-Claire-Deville placed at our disposal at all times the results of his wide experience and the facilities under his control. He rendered most valuable service to the American Expeditionary Forces in connection with the development of the American ordnance inspection and maintenance work.
