The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Major of Infantry Augustin X. Richert, French Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States, during World War I, for services as an Instructor of the 90th Division. During the training of the Division at Aignay-le-Duc, Major Richert was constantly in the field, and by his unceasing work and high military attainments he materially assisted the division to acquire as quickly as possible that proficiency which enabled it to join the fighting forces at the front. His services at this period were invaluable, and later at the front his courage and coolness were an inspiration to the men who saw him.
